Why don't Tesla just oursource that part of the business (e.g. to Chargepoint)?

Both meet my needs/wants for horsepower, cargo, range and charging speed. Tesla still has a charging network advantage, but hopefully the 2025 I5 will be able to use the network. Unfortunately, my understanding the superchargers won’t work well with the 800 volt architecture. To really compare the cars I’d have to drive both of them for at least a week, but from my test drive of the Y and driving a friend’s Y, the only thing I liked was the horsepower. I enjoyed driving the I5 more and it has a lot of things the Y doesn’t have. I love the styling on the I5 and I’m neutral on the Y. I know two people who own I5’s and they love them. I have a couple of friends with the model Y and they love them. I don’t see any reason to get weird or angry if somebody chooses one or the other. They both seem like a solid choice to me depending on what you want and how much you are willing to pay. I’ll give the Y a big thumbs up for dog mode, but I’m surprised that they can’t offer more colors for the top selling car in the world. The checklist in this video is a fun intellectual exercise, but I don’t think it’s really how people are going to choose a car. I’m impressed by the changes Hyundai is making on the I5 for 2025. If project Juniper Y, has the same changes as the Model 3, I think I’d be happy enough to get the 2024 Y and save some money.

Listed price between 19" RWD and AWD on their website is only $3000 off. (AWD is 47,990, while RWD is 44,990) So, I am not sure how you got a $5000 difference between them in your chart.

You didn't include sales tax or did I miss something? An initially higher purchase price means higher taxes and thus overall higher price on the Tesla, right?

Elon musk is a hero of mine,, I would do almost anything to shake his hand,, and I love the hole Electric car thing even though I love my internal combustion engine.. But I do believe you did make a false statement saying that they are less polluting,, and please correct me if I’m wrong.. But you’re not talking about the gas,, oil,, or cold burning power plants being used to generate the electricity to charge the electric trucks and vehicles.. Unless they are Hooked up to windmills or something other green energy or Hydro, etc..

This is still terrible and is less than one twentieth of the target production rate. Worse still the power density is simply not competitive. Tesla needs to get 4680 above 300 Wh/kg. Extremely frustrating. The 4680 is killing Tesla’s competitiveness.

at a 1000wh/kg you could have a 100kwh battery that weighs only 220lbs, compared to the 100 kwh Tesla battery that weighs 1300lb.

As I understand it, Drew Baglino got fired for the Semi and 4680 fiasco.

Software would be materially different from typical Tesla tho not necessarily from Cybertruck which to my knowledge latter still does not have any vehicle autonomy on board that has been activated so would be nice to see Tesla start with that as that is their most important vehicle in their still quite short Company History. A few thousand Tesla Semis would have a material impact upon US logisitcs and whoever is lucky enough to operate a Tesla Semi as being battery powered means the vehicle is purpose built for running 24/7/365 so is ideal for this type of work as with Uber, Lyft, Turo etc. In the meantime how Cybertruck roll out proceeds and works as stated above is far more material as look at how many pickup trucks ply US highways doing every number of things day in and day out. With chaos in Putin Russia starting to play out and select commodities now getting hammered such as steel and iron ore certainly was the right time to go all in on the massive Cybertruck as demand for steel, well...there isn't much demand for steel at the moment in North America excepting Cybertruck. Rivian still crazy over priced in their market as well but quality there is rumored to have dramatically improved same true with the Mustang Mach-E. Battery electrics have clearly matured big time and could start seeing a massive disinflation in the market segment as a consequence #big_battery

Tesla is losing the race to affordability, and batteries are a significant part of the story.

Musk has a history of over-promising but under-delivering, so I think we'll wait to see how the dynamics and economies of these semis pan out. IMO.

- - just one question - what happens if battery goes in thermal runaway. You should know that - such fire can't be extinguished - it burns even under water and burns till the end - spilling super toxic fumes and melting everything under it. .. And why you all - who are in this electric cult look so...well how should I put it politely ... ok - - "religiously exalted" .

Why dont tell the true? Pepsi use federal funds ,about 20 millons to buy the truck as a "test program" , and dont work very well😅

Dan is spouting utter nonsense, unless someone at Tesla has invented a battery whose energy density is 4x what is currently achievable, then more than 50% of the weight of the truck will be the battery..

One think to keep in mind is that Tesla cars are NOT expected to last one MILLION miles. While Tesla semis ARE. This means that everything needs to be that much better than the Tesla cars. Also, this is the Model X of their Semi line. What I mean by that is that this is the first semi truck that they are building. And this isn't just upsizing everything. Everything is different, they are starting from scratch with every part on the truck (except maybe the tires but even the tire company is probably learning quite a bit too).

Elon gets things right before large scale production. Not everything is ready yet with batteries and charging tech, economy isn’t right, politics isn’t right. I’m happy Tesla are taking their time to scale manufacturing. Spending big on compute is the right focus just now I think.

EV semi's make more sense to me than EV cars. EV semi's are much better for going up and down hills. They can go up a lot faster and the brakes don't take a beating going back down.

Can't wait. Bring on electric semi's, garbage trucks, delivery trucks, tow trucks..... I used to live in downtown Portland and the sound of loud diesel vehicles echoing throughout the streets was unbearable. I had to move.

The innovations worked out on the Cybertruck (48V, drive & steer by wire, etc) must be included in the Semi, delaying its mass production.

What about Wisconsin in the middle of winter?? No video of these trucks running in cold climate, for good reason.

It's not happening champ. They might eventually deliver the trucks that customers paid for in 2017, but that will be the end of it. It's been 10 times the disaster of Cybertruck and not useful to 99.9% of the freight industry. We won't even talk about the dozens of things that we're promised prior to purchase, which never happened. Like convoy tech BS, million mile guarantee, 500 mile range, towing capacity, megacharging stations etc. They still haven't even delivered Pepsi's full 100 yet after X years...

Sadly batteries will be the limiting factor for decades to come. We need some serious nobel prize level evolution for batteries and then some!
